I think it was mostly the large amount that got them concerned. I was being calm and confident about the whole thing, and pointed out that I did already pay sales tax on the netbook; I think that you may have to pay sales tax on some items above a certain amount when importing them into Canada (BPAL and jewelry got me a time or two) but since I had proof that I already did, you can't tax twice.
