I got sucked into the "Interview Me" meme by
kickthehobbit. These questions were answered yesterday, and refer to the previous post in my journal.
1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you five questions.
3. Update your own LJ with a copy of those questions and your answers.
4. Include these rules with an offer to interview others in your post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, ask them five questions.
1. What do you want to do once you're finished with school?
1. Oh geez, could you head over to my entry for this very day, and read up on my musings on this very subject, which can be summed up in a nutshells as "I dunno, probably something to do with linguistics and math"?
But to be precise: my dream job would be world-famous award-winning science-fiction and fantasy writer. Second dream job, however, would be logical semanticist, at this time. I definitely want at least one master's degree, and I am not thinking beyond that at the moment.
2. Do you believe in a higher power?
2. I think that we have discussed this before, on the "Answer any question honestly" post. And I think I said what I still do now: I believe that our intentions have the ability to change events. Prayer is a form of stating intention. So, incidentally, is thinking over something you fear and dread. The agglomeration of all the intention from so many people in the world may be viewed as a higher power, prayed to, and may explain "miraculous" events that cannot be explained in any other way. However, I do not believe that this same power created the universe.
3. If you could change one thing about your day today, what would you change?
3. Easy. I would change the logic homework I handed in, and make every line of it make sense and be correct.
4. Are you happy with the direction your life is taking?
4. Much as I complain about how hard it is - yes, I am happy with that direction. I love what I am studying now, and what I have studied before, even if it sometimes breaks my heart and makes me cry and doubt myself, because it is bigger than me. I love my job, even if an hour of transcribing very bad Spanish makes me very slightly hysterical. I love what I have achieved in writing so far, even though I am not close to publication at this time (yeah, deleting at least seven chapters at the beginning and completely rewriting them would do that to you.) Yes, I am happy with the direction my life is taking, and I can still summon the excitement over what it can bring.
5. Do you consider yourself a well-rounded person?
5. Yes. I consider myself one of those fortunate people who can straddle the sciences-humanities divide, and, most importantly, explain each side clearly to someone from the other side, if I put my mind to it. I consider myself to have a fairly good dilettante's grounding in the arts and the sciences. Athletics are a gap; however, dance and aikido, which I sorely miss right now, as well as cycling and walking, do provide physical activity.
And to put it bluntly - honey, you don't get to National Academic Quiz Tournament championships without being well-rounded in your knowledge.
And I added thanks to kickthehobbit , because I was feeling down about myself, and after answering those questions I feel much better.
sweeteepea posted some questions for me as well:
1. What ONE word do you think other people would use to describe you?
Smart. In my experience.
2. Would you rather be rich and never love or live check to check and be deliriously in love?
I laughed, because the second one is my state of affairs right now, and has been for the last three years (prior to that I managed my checks better but was still deliriously in love - the people and things it was targeted at varied, the state did not). Therefore, the "never" part of the first option is null and void - although I would be curious to try it for a couple of years.
3. What actress would play you in a major motion picture about your life?
Natalie Portman. She is the first one that comes to mind. I would find Paris Hilton trying to play me to be the most hilarious bit of miscasting ever.
4. You've got $5,000 to spend and one hour to spend it - what do you get?
$3000 will go on a pair of earrings from Toni Cavelti, via Birks, and the rest would go on some BPAL Snake Pit scents, and Fluevogs.
5. 4. If you had to erase one day from your life, which would it be and why?
I think I've already erased it, because I am trying hard to remember a day like that. There was a day I did something very very stupid to someone I love dearly, which does not affect anything that came after, but which I certainly hope he forgot. The date is sometime in December 2005. I would rather not say any more. Many of the other days I have had bad experiences ended up changing me or my surroundings in a good way, so, reflecting on them, I would not mind letting them stay, although I am glad they are over.
