I've discovered that I have been published!

My review of a psycholinguistics article on Spanish-English bilingualism did indeed appear in the November 2007 issue of the Spanish-language Boletín de la Asociación para la Enseñanza del Español Como Lengua Extranjera (aka ASELE).

In Spanish. That's me, my first publication credit isn't even in a language I consider I speak fluently.

And one could go down, one could go around,
But no, we choose the harder ground,
And like a warpath is the path we call...

Congratulations! That is really, really, REALLY freaking awesome.

Not really, really, REALLY. >.< It's one page long. And I can't even remember what it was about, anyway; I just walk into my office today and see that Consuelo had left a photocopy for me (along with my paystubs since December!)

Well, I guess it's awesome for an anglophone undergraduate.

I think getting published in any academic paper is just about the coolest thing ever. I don't know...it's sort of the pinnacle of smartness. :)

I'll take novels, for preference. Or if I must settle for the pinnacle of smartness, Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society.

Or Harper's!

Very cool! *adds you to my list of famous published people I know*

Wait until I actually get fiction published before making that statement. :-)

Oh yeah, note to all the gods there are and to some that I made up: when I wished to be published, I did mean fiction, of novel length, and I believe I specified that. So thanks, but I'm in no way resting on my laurels yet.

Hmm, cement versus bilingualism? Concrete versus the attrition of Spanish in Miami teens? (That's the article I discussed in those two long Facebook notes that ended up having fifty comments degenerate into promoting teaching our children Seminole and Elvish.) Multiple authors on a research paper versus sole author on a one-page article review?

I'll let my readers decide which is cooler. It's a tough choice. There's coolness to concrete. Unless you put sugar in it.

Is the correct response "Thanks"? Or "It's one page long, no big deal, really, and who's ever heard of ASELE"?

You'll get published in more awesome places, I am certain!

Regardless of its significance on a worldwide scale, I think this merits a hearty, "Congratulations!" to you.

Thanks!

I was feeling a little glum --- weather, mostly --- so to raise my mood I posted a Serduchka video. For you!
